It all started in my best friend’s basement in Brentwood Long
Island, New York. I was in about 5th grade. He and I started writing
full songs even though we couldn’t even play the leads!
We just knew chords, but we would come up with a song every week
until we had about 30 songs; then we started looking for other band
mates.
Once we began playing in bands, we formed many different bands
that I would either play guitar in or sing.
My first singing gig was in front of a church festival, when our
singer told us he couldn’t make it. I took over the main vox.--
I think I sang Hell’s Bells to a very religious and judging
audience! The various bands I played in stemmed from there: Sabotage,
Satyr, Sacrilege, and Eruption.
Then I auditioned with a semi-known band called Invasion. Being
a step ahead of their time, they were recording a full-length album
and they needed vox on it. My vocal style began to take on similarities
to other great vocalists such as Geoff Tate, King Diamond, Eric
Adams, and Joey Belladonna.
At this point we played some prestigious gigs at some of New York’s
hottest clubs at the time. We opened for national acts such as Motorhead,
Anthrax, Metal Church, Nuclear Assault, Grim Reaper, Ruffcutt, Virgin
Steel, TT-Quick and Cintron.
We frequently hung out with Frank Carriola (owner of the Sundance)
and Fingers from Finger’s metal shop on local Radio station
WBAB (he still does the show to this day!).
